Cultivating Futures Case Study

Working with a landscape architecture and inclusive design consultancy, Charlotte Bates is following the inclusive (re)design of a small rural primary school’s grounds. She has been working alongside this design project since spring 2014, and has undertaken interviews with the teachers and parents and attended a series of workshops and meetings with the children and teachers in that time, at which she observantly participated by taking the role of workshop assistant (this meant helping with scissors and tape, and getting messy with glue and paint). The case study is highlighting the process of co-design, with a particular focus on children’s geographies, anticipation, risk and futures, and sensory design.
